USLT gives free books to Louisians, public schools

Books for all! To mark the 60th Academic Month, the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT), through its University Libraries, launched a 3-day Bookshelf Clearance from April 23 to 25, 2025, at the Bishop Wenceslao Padilla Learning Hall.

The event aims to make the most out of library resources by donating weeded-out but still useful books to selected public schools in Cagayan and to interested Louisian students and employees. Some books are also made available for sale at much lower prices. This initiative not only helps declutter the library for new acquisitions and a better learning space but also ensures that books continue to be read and appreciated in communities where they are needed most.

As of April 24, the University Libraries have already given away 1,740 volumes of books for free and sold 22 volumes.

The activity is led by the University Libraries staff and involves partnerships with public schools in the region, as well as active participation from students and employees of USLT.

The Bookshelf Clearance also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education by providing learning materials to schools and individuals in need, and SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production by repurposing weeded out books through donation and sale, ensuring that resources are used sustainably and meaningfully.
