The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) emerged as the grand champion of the 12th St. Paul National Bible Quiz held on September 12, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center in Manila.
Represented by Matthew D. Maiztegui, Grade 10 Rizal, and Bryce Lester A. Taguiad, Grade 8 St. Peter, the Louisian team outperformed 11 schools nationwide in the final round. They were guided by Mrs. Gianette P. Pagalilauan, Area Head of Christian Faith Education (CFED).
The Bible Quiz is an initiative of the priests and brothers of the Society of St. Paul (SSP). It aims to deepen the knowledge and love for the Word of God among the youth and to strengthen Catholic faith formation in schools. For USLT, a Catholic institution, the victory reflects its mission to nurture both academic excellence and Christian values in its students.
Themed “Word Lives, Hope Grows,” this year’s quiz gathered young competitors from across the country who advanced through online elimination and semifinal rounds. From Northern Luzon, USLT sent two teams from the Basic Education School (BES). Team 1, composed of Maiztegui and Taguiad and coached by Pagalilauan, qualified for the semifinals and eventually secured a spot in the national championship. Team 2, with Precious Chrizten U. Tucjang (Grade 9 Prudence) and Kurt Robin C. Guanga (Grade 9 Honesty), coached by OIC-Director for Center for Sports Development Mr. Ramil I. Corpuz, also represented the school in the eliminations.
USLT’s journey in the St. Paul National Bible Quiz (SPNBQ) goes back to the 4th SPNBQ. The university reached the national championship for the first time in the 6th SPNBQ in 2015, again in the 8th SPNBQ in 2017, and now celebrates its third appearance in the national finals—this time finishing as grand champion.
