USL finishes 1st runner-up in 7th CICM Meet

The University of Saint Louis (USL) delegation finished strong, placing 1st runner-up in the 7th CICM Meet held at Saint Louis University (SLU), Baguio City, on February 19-23, 2024.

USL amassed an impressive tally of 22 gold, 25 silver, and 28 bronze medals across sports, cultural, and academic events.

In particular, the USL delegation notched six golds in Swimming: 50m Freestyle Boys, 50m Breaststroke Boys, 50m Freestyle Relay Boys, 50m Butterfly Boys, 50m Medley Relay Boys, and 200m Individual Medley Boys; and five golds in Table Tennis: JHS Girls Singles, JHS Boys Singles, SHS Boys Singles, College Mens Singles 1, and College Mens Singles 2.

USL also won four golds in Badminton: JHS Boys Singles, JHS Girls Singles, JHS Mixed Double, and SHS Mixed Double; three golds in Chess: College Men Individual B2, Elementary Boys, and JHS Boys; two golds in Volleyball: Senior High Men and Senior High Women; and a gold each in Billiards 9 Ball SHS Girls and Taekwondo Kyorugi Senior Men Lightweight.

The volleyball SHS team also brought home special awards. Among the girls team, Angel Joy Gaspar was awarded the Most Valuable Player, Erika Paguila was both the Best Server and 1st Best Opposite Hitter, Love Asuncion was the Best Libero, Xandrijn Maggay was the 1st Best Middle Hitter, Precious Galingana was the 2nd Best Open Hitter, and Mr. Jovince Diciano was awarded the Best Coach.

In the volleyball SHS boys, Jestler Mark Ursua was crowned the Most Valuable Player, Cliff Justin Lacambra was the 1st Best Middle Blocker, Mark Angelu Salcedo was the 1st Best Opener, John Dexter Valones was the 2nd Best Opposite Hitter, and Mr. Ardhie Deocampo was the Best Coach.

The SHS Basketball Boys, with their silver finish, also added to the list of special awards, with Cristo Rey Bareno and Aixey Louinel Javier included in the Mythical Five of the SHS Basketball Division.

Bearing the theme “Sandiwa’t Misyon: Journeying Together as CICM Schools Towards Catholic Integral Formation and Global Excellence,” the meet spotlighted the skills and talents of college, high school, and grade school students of CICM sister schools across the country.

Just ahead of USL, the host school, SLU, was crowned overall champion. Saint Louis College of San Fernando La Union, Saint Mary’s University, and Saint Louis College Cebu settled for 2nd runner-up, 3rd runner-up, and 4th runner-up, respectively.

USL also acknowledged the achievement of its delegation in a recognition ceremony during the Basic Education School’s General Assembly held on March 4, 2024, at the Open Field.
