USLT holds 18th Capping, Pinning, Candle Lighting Ceremony for nursing students

The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) held the 18th Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting Ceremony of its Nursing students of Batch Misericordia in Caritas Dei on November 3, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Chapel.

The solemn celebration began with a Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. John Mark D. Barroga, CICM, VP for Mission and Identity and University Chaplain. Following the Eucharistic celebration, the ceremony commenced with the blessing of the nursing symbols—the cap, pin, and lamp—which signify purity, dedication, and service in the nursing profession.

Inspirational messages were delivered by Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, Ph.D., University President; Dr. Luisa B. Aquino, VP for Academics; and Mr. Alvin A. Aldea, MSMT, OIC-Dean of the School of Health and Allied Sciences. Each message encouraged the student-nurses to uphold compassion, competence, and integrity as they continue their journey in the field of healthcare.

Serving as the keynote speaker was Mrs. Jocelyn Sorita, RN, MSN, MPA, FPSQua, MHA, Nurse VII and Chief Nursing Officer at Cagayan Valley Medical Center. In her address, she shared her professional experiences and emphasized the importance of empathy, lifelong learning, and resilience in the nursing vocation.

The milestone event was witnessed by the parents, faculty members, and university administrators, who joined the students in celebrating their symbolic transition from classroom learning to clinical practice.
