USL-CECA highlights IP Month with CECApehan, Market Day

The University of Saint Louis (USL), through the Community Engagement and CICM Advocacies (CECA), proudly hosted the Indigenous Peoples Sunday held on October 13, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Chapel and Bishop Padilla Learning Hall.

The celebration began with a Holy Mass, setting a solemn tone for the day. This was followed by the CECApehan, where attendees enjoyed free coffee and bibingka, fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere that encouraged community engagement.

Aside from the CECApehan, another highlight of the event was the USL Market Day, which showcased a vibrant array of fresh, locally-grown products from farmers of San Antonio, Enrile, and Allaguia, Pinukpuk, Kalinga. The response from the USL community was overwhelming, with all products sold out—a testament to the strong desire to support local farmers and promote sustainable consumption.

Moreover, all proceeds from the market will be directed towards community extension projects, ensuring that the benefits of the event extend beyond just one day. These projects will focus on enhancing the livelihood of local farmers, improving agricultural practices, and promoting environmental sustainability.

In addition, this event aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including No Poverty (SDG 1), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12). By purchasing these locally-sourced products, participants directly contributed to the economic empowerment of farmers and the sustainability of their communities.

Looking ahead, USL is excited to announce that free coffee will be served by the CECA Office every Sunday throughout Indigenous Peoples Month, further promoting local products and fostering a sense of community.

As we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Month, let us remain committed to supporting our local farmers and making a positive impact on our communities. Stay tuned for more events that empower our farmers and promote sustainable development!
