The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) emerged as champion in the 1st Linggo ng Kabataan Provincial Asian Parliamentary Debate Cup, held on August 20, 2026, at the Cagayan Provincial Information Office (CPIO) TeleRadyo Studio.
The Louisian debate team brought home the championship title and a cash prize of ₱25,000, along with medals and a plaque, with Christy D. Prejido (BAPOS-2), Shavannah Darlaine G. Labang (BAPOS-4), Jean Audrey M. Lagrio (BAPOS-4), and Althea Madeira S. Lavadia (BAPOS-1) representing USLT. All four are students of the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Legal Professional Preparatory Program, under the coaching of Department Head Mr. Christian Bosch S. Taylan.
The competition brought together student debaters from various higher education institutions in Cagayan, including USLT, International School of Asia and the Pacific (ISAP), St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP), University of Cagayan Valley (UCV), Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines (MCNP), and Cagayan State University (CSU)-Aparri Campus.
Throughout the competition, the participants engaged with contemporary issues, putting their critical thinking, argumentation, and public speaking skills to the test. The exchanges highlighted the ability of young debaters to examine complex issues from different perspectives and articulate well-grounded positions under pressure.
The achievement reflects USLT’s commitment to SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly in providing students with opportunities to develop critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills through academic and co-curricular activities.
