The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) joined Catholic higher education institutions from across Southeast and East Asia at the 32nd General Assembly and Annual Conference of the Association of Southeast and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities (ASEACCU) held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from August 18 to 21, 2026. The conference, hosted by Universitas Sanata Dharma and Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, carried the theme “Education, Hope, and Human Flourishing: Fostering Intercultural Encounter and Dialogue.”
The General Assembly brought together university leaders, faculty members, and students from across different countries for dialogue on the evolving role of Catholic higher education. Central to the discussions was the concept of human flourishing and the integral formation of the whole person, underscoring the role of education in shaping individuals and communities beyond academic achievement.
The theme resonated strongly with USLT’s mission of providing education grounded in faith, excellence, and service. Amid rapid developments in artificial intelligence and technology, globalization, social inequalities, and environmental challenges, the conference underscored the continuing need to place human dignity, ethical responsibility, solidarity, and holistic formation at the heart of education.
Representing USLT were Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, Ph.D., University President; Rev. Fr. John Mark D. Barroga, CICM, Vice President for Mission and Identity; Aldwin D. Tuliao, MBA, Prefect of Men and SSC Adviser; and Kyrus Deon C. Barroga, SSC President (BSMT-3).
Beyond the conference, USLT’s participation strengthened its connections with fellow Catholic institutions and opened opportunities for academic, student, and institutional collaboration. These international engagements were further strengthened through the formalization of new academic partnerships. On August 19, 2026, USLT signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with Saint Paul Institute, Cambodia; Christ University, Bangalore, India; and University Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The MOUs aim to strengthen international academic collaboration through faculty and student exchanges, joint research and conferences, cultural and educational programs, skills and internship opportunities, study tours, and other initiatives that promote knowledge-sharing and global learning.
USLT’s participation also reflects its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reinforcing the University’s pursuit of education that inspires hope, fosters dialogue, and contributes to the flourishing of individuals and communities.
