The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) solemnly conferred the Degree of Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa, upon Dr. Hidilyn Francisco Diaz-Naranjo during a ceremony held on February 9, 2026, at the James Ter Meer Gymnasium.
The conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa, is a distinguished academic tradition that recognizes individuals whose exceptional contributions have significantly advanced society, the nation, and humanity.
The ceremony was witnessed by dignitaries from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Education (DepEd), representatives from higher education institutions in Tuguegarao City, officials from local and regional government agencies, members of the Board of Trustees, university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and media partners from within and outside the university.
Dr. Diaz-Naranjo, the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist, continues to inspire generations through her achievements in sports, her dedication to mentoring aspiring athletes, and her commitment to nation-building through discipline, perseverance, and service.
A globally recognized weightlifting champion, Dr. Diaz-Naranjo has elevated Philippine weightlifting onto the world stage while continuing to promote the sport through coaching, mentorship, and the establishment of training programs that provide aspiring athletes greater access to professional weightlifting instruction and opportunities.
Meanwhile, a press conference with Dr. Diaz-Naranjo and her team, together with Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, PhD, was likewise held following the ceremony to accommodate members of the media and further discuss the significance of the conferment and her continuing advocacy for sports development.
Through this conferment, the university affirms its pride in honoring a true champion whose legacy in sports and service continues to inspire generations.
