In commemoration of democratic ideals and in pursuit of global academic engagement, the university community gathered at Bulwagang Teodulfo Domingo on February 24, 2026, for the Freedom250 Lecture and Fulbright Scholarship Information Session, featuring distinguished guests from Fulbright Philippines.
The event brought together Senior High School students from the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand, alongside college students enrolled in Political Science, Psychology, and Criminology programs, accompanied by their instructors. The gathering served as a platform for meaningful dialogue on international collaboration, academic exchange, and the enduring ties between nations.
The program opened with a welcome message from the Vice President for Academics, Dr. Luisa B. Aquino, who underscored the value of global engagement and academic excellence.
Subsequently, Director for Glocal Partnerships and Engagement Dr. Anjanette F. Batulan introduced the invited speakers, highlighting the university’s continued efforts to strengthen international linkages and expand opportunities for students and faculty members.
The first presentation was delivered by Mr. Julio Amador III, Executive Director of Fulbright Philippines, who provided an overview of the Fulbright Scholarship Program. His discussion covered the history, objectives, and various scholarship opportunities available to Filipino students, faculty, and professionals.
Additionally, he encouraged attendees to consider academic exchanges as pathways to leadership, cross-cultural understanding, and professional growth.
The highlight of the event was the Freedom250 Lecture delivered by Judge Lady Ivy Vanity Velasco. In her lecture, she reflected on the significance of freedom, democratic institutions, and civic responsibility in contemporary society. She emphasized the importance of critical thinking, respect for the rule of law, and active participation in nation-building, particularly among the youth who stand at the forefront of shaping the country’s future.
Following the lecture, an Open Forum was held to provide an avenue for participants to raise questions, share insights, and engage in meaningful dialogue with the speakers, fostering a deeper understanding of the topics discussed.
Through initiatives such as the Freedom250 Lecture and Fulbright Scholarship Information Session, the university continues to foster intellectual exchange, global awareness, and a deeper appreciation of democratic values among its academic community.
