Engr. Jenirose B. Matias, ME ECE, was selected as one of the 45 early-career researchers and advanced graduate students from the Philippines and several Asian countries including Japan, India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia, to participate in the Southeast Asian Mathematical Society (SEAMS) School 2025: Inverse Problems and Optimal Control held at the University of the Philippines Baguio from December 3 to 11, 2025.
The program featured intensive lectures and workshops on mathematical tools and numerical techniques used in machine learning, medical imaging, and various natural science applications. It also aimed to strengthen international collaboration and build lasting academic networks among participants.
The SEAMS School 2025 was organized with support from the UP Office of International Linkages (UP OIL), the Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA), the Southeast Asian Mathematical Society (SEAMS), the International Mathematical Union (IMU), the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP), MSP–CAR, Regions 1 and 2 Chapter, Academia de Sophia International (AdSI), the Philippine Consortium for Social Welfare and Human Development Research Inc. (PCSWHRD), and several private donors.
Notably, six distinguished experts in applied mathematics led the training, namely Dr. Evelyn Cueva (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile), Dr. Tania Biswas (Charles University, Czech Republic), Dr. John Sebastian Simon (Universität Koblenz, Germany), Dr. Renier Mendoza (UP Diliman), Dr. Rhudaina Mohammad (UP Diliman), and Dr. Rommel Real (UP Mindanao).
The participation of Engr. Matias in the SEAMS School 2025 underscores her growing engagement in advanced mathematical research and its interdisciplinary applications, while also reflecting the institution’s commitment to faculty development, international academic exposure, and active involvement in regional and global research communities.
