USLT employees trained on crisis management

The university’s employees received crisis management lessons on January 17, 2025, at the James Ter Meer Gymnasium.

The lecture aimed to strengthen the employees’ capacity in handling potential threats, particularly those involving bombs and explosives.

Esteemed professionals from the region’s Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group (PNP-EOD/K9G) provided essential skills and knowledge necessary for effective crisis management, including threat assessment, bomb threat management, evacuation procedures, and communication protocols.

The session with PSSG Mateo A. Ballad, a Registered Criminologist and EOD Technician, provided valuable insights into explosives, facilitating understanding of their various types and classifications.

In his talk on Bomb Threat Management, PSSG Allan Acilador, Registered Criminologist and EOD Technician, emphasized the importance of recognizing the signs of a potential bomb threat, such as receiving a suspicious package or encountering a bomb threat message.

Both PSSG Ballad and PSSG Acilador highlighted the need for proper threat assessment and the importance of implementing effective management strategies to ensure the safety of individuals and prevent panic.

PCpl Jonavie Darilag, DVM, K9 Handler, also shared knowledge about the use of canines as a law enforcement tool in detecting explosives, illegal substances, and conducting search and rescue operations.

Following the lectures, the PNP-EOD/K9G conducted a demonstration at the main campus open field on the correct protocols for handling and disposing of a suspicious package armed with an explosive.

With this training, the employees now have an understanding of potential risks and the appropriate responses to contribute to a safe and secure environment within the university premises, as well as the public spaces and personal spaces outside the campus.
