The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) and the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) formally sealed their partnership through a contract-signing ceremony on July 27, 2026, marking the start of implementation of the CPD-funded research project, Intergenerational Households in Supporting the Elderly in Cagayan Valley.
The approved research grant demonstrates the shared commitment of both institutions to conducting evidence-based research on the role of intergenerational households in supporting older persons in the Cagayan Valley Region. Moreover, the study’s findings are expected to contribute to population and development initiatives, strengthen programs for the elderly, and provide evidence to support policy and program development.
Representatives from CPD, led by Regional Director Ms. Theresa C. Soriano, MADem, joined University President Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, PhD, university officials, and members of the research team during the signing. Headed by Project Leader Mr. Jomel M. Maborrang, MAEd, the study will examine how intergenerational households support older persons in the Cagayan Valley. Its findings are expected to strengthen programs for the elderly and provide valuable evidence for future policy and program development.
This partnership advances Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being by supporting research that promotes the welfare and quality of life of older persons. It also contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening collaboration between academia and government in producing evidence that informs policies and development programs.
