USLT alumnus, global finance leader inspires graduates at 54th Short-Term Commencement Exercises

The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) welcomed back one of its distinguished alumni, Mr. Rolando Soriano Caypuno, CPA, MBA, FMAA, as the guest speaker for the 54th College and Graduate Programs Short-Term Commencement Exercises.

Mr. Caypuno is a proud Louisian, earning his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from USLT in 2004. After passing the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Exam, he began his professional journey with Grant Thornton International in Makati City, where he developed strong expertise in auditing. In 2005, he returned to his alma mater and served in various academic and leadership roles until 2010, including Accountancy Professor, Department Head, Assistant Dean, and Officer-in-Charge Dean of the School of Business Administration and Accountancy.

His career later took him abroad, where he contributed to corporate finance for over a decade. Notably, he served as Chief Financial Officer of elseco Limited, a high-technology multinational insurance underwriting firm specializing in Satellite, Aviation, and Energy. Headquartered in Dubai, elseco is a Lloyd’s Coverholder with regulated offices in London and Washington, D.C. Under his leadership, the company thrived in a highly competitive global industry.

Mr. Caypuno further advanced his academic and professional credentials by completing a Master in Business Administration with Academic Excellence from Pole Paris Alternance (PPA) Business School in France. In 2024, he achieved worldwide recognition when he ranked first globally in the Financial and Managerial Accounting Associate (FMAA) certification with an outstanding score of 96.67 percent.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Mr. Caypuno devotes himself to mentoring Filipinos abroad. He currently serves as Review Director of the Philippine Middle East Certified Public Accountant Review, a voluntary role he embraces wholeheartedly. Through this advocacy, he has guided over 200 overseas Filipino workers in successfully passing the Philippine CPA Licensure Exam and the US-based CMA and FMAA certifications.

Despite his impressive accomplishments, Mr. Caypuno remains humble and committed to quiet service. At the age of 42, he chose early partial retirement to devote more time to his advocacy of uplifting Filipino professionals through education and mentoring. He continues to inspire through his example of excellence, integrity, and service, which are deeply rooted in his formation as a Louisian.

As he stood before the graduating class, Mr. Caypuno returned to USLT as a successful professional and a grateful alumnus who carries the university’s mission with him across the globe. His message of humility, perseverance, and service resonated with the graduates, reminding them that success is most meaningful when it is shared with others.
