The University of Saint Louis (USL) embarked on a two-day ISO 21001:2018 Gap Analysis and Awareness Training on October 10-11, 2024, at the Bulwagang Teodulfo Domingo. This event marked a vital step as the university shifts from the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System to the ISO 21001:2018 Educational Organization Management System (EOMS), a strategic tool designed to enhance organizational management within educational institutions.
The training, facilitated by Mr. Angel G. Fernandez, a renowned consultant and lead implementer of the ISO 21001:2018 EOMS, convened members of the university administrators and all process owners. Sir Fernandez, whose extensive consultancy experience spans numerous educational institutions, led a training manifested by the eagerness and active participation of all involved.
The focus of the two-day session revolved around the key features of the EOMS as a tool to solve problems in educational institutions.
One of the highlights of the first day was a workshop where representatives from various clusters, including Academics, Finance, Administration, and Mission and Identity, conducted a SWOT analysis. Each group presented their findings, anchored on the 11 pillars of ISO 21001:2018.
The second day allowed participants to delve deeper into risk management. Building on the outputs from the previous day’s workshop, each cluster was tasked with developing a comprehensive risk register.
Emphasizing the importance of proactive planning, Sir Fernandez stated, “We need to determine the processes needed by the educational organization to address the issues at hand.” He further stressed the need for leadership and accountability, urging participants to identify key personnel responsible for executing tasks.
The training not only provided participants with valuable tools to strengthen the institution’s management system but also reinforced the university’s commitment to upholding global standards in educational management.
As USL moves forward in its ISO 21001:2018 journey, it is poised to enhance its operational efficiency, ensure consistent quality, and ultimately, deliver better outcomes for its learners and stakeholders. This commitment is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), as the university strives to foster inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education for all.
