The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) has made a notable entry into the 2024 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, standing 661st among 1,477 institutions globally across 95 countries.
This recognition reflects USLT’s dedicated efforts towards fostering a sustainable campus, which concurrently ranked USLT at 24th nationally out of 63 institutions.
The university’s sustainability performance was assessed through six criteria, resulting in a total score of 6,135 points. These criteria include Settings and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, and Education and Research. Each criterion evaluated the university’s policies and programs related to environmental sustainability, including energy use, waste management, water conservation, transportation policies, and support for sustainability education and research.
Dr. Darin Jan C Tindowen, Senior Director of the University Research and Innovation Office (URIO), expressed the significance of the GreenMetric rankings in identifying areas for improvement. Specifically, he highlighted the need to enhance the university’s water conservation, waste management, and overall policy towards a green environment to improve USLT’s ranking next year.
“By elevating our GreenMetric ranking, the university’s sustainability efforts will be strengthened, thereby improving the overall services provided to our clients,” asserted Dr. Tindowen.
Now in its 15th edition, the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is a ranking on green campuses and environmental sustainability initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010. The ranking showcases results from an online survey, highlighting current conditions, policies, and institutional improvements in participating universities worldwide.
The university’s inclusion in the rankings was achieved through the collaborative efforts of various departments, including URIO, Strategic Management, Quality Assurance, and Accreditation, School of Health and Allied Sciences, School of Architecture, Computer, and Engineering, Campus Infrastructure and General Services, Basic Education School, and Community Engagement and CICM Advocacies.
Further, this achievement also exemplifies USLT’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, aligning with UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
