USL, CHRE extend partnership with new MOA

The University of Saint Louis (USL) and the Commission on Human Rights Education (CHRE) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) today, September 4, 2024, at the USL Sacred Heart Board Room. This partnership, initially established last year, underscores both institutions’ dedication to cultivating a healthy culture of human rights within the university.

The newly signed Memorandum of Agreement between USL and CHRE extends their partnership for three years. More so, this renewed and reinforced collaboration promotes a deeper understanding and respect for human rights among students, faculty, and staff, both on campus and with external partners, fostering a more informed and compassionate academic environment.

The attendees from the Commission of Human Rights Region 02 were Atty. Jimmy P. Baliga, CPA, Regional Director; Atty. Monchito N. Matias, Attorney IV; and Louella A. Tomas, Chief of the Promotion and Advocacy Division. From USL, those present included Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, Ph.D., University President; Dr. Marie Rose P. Mora, Vice President for Administration; Dr. Herbert S. Corpuz, Academic Dean of the School of Education, Criminology, Arts, and Psychology; Dr. Anjanette F. Batulan, Director of Glocal Partnerships and Engagements; Mr. Kyle S. Espiritu, Assistant Director of Glocal Partnerships and Engagements; and Mrs. Claire T. Gumarang, Political Science Department Head and Prefect of Discipline.

This partnership supports both SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering human rights education and strengthening collaboration. Through this renewed agreement, USL and CHRE contribute to building a more inclusive and just society while demonstrating the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals.
