USL alumna selected as finalist in OSLP

Sharlotte A. Ferrer, a proud alumna of the University of Saint Louis (USL) and a graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, Batch 2024, recently achieved the honor of being named a finalist in the prestigious Search for Outstanding Student Leaders of the Philippines (OSLP). Ferrer was selected from over 200 applicants nationwide, securing her place among the top 25 young leaders in the country.

Ferrer’s participation at the 4th National & International Convention on Student Affairs and Services was held from October 2 to 4, 2024 at the Venus Parkview Hotel in Baguio City. The convention, which attracted more than 100 attendees, empowered student leaders from across the nation to navigate new challenges and discuss innovative strategies and leadership approaches for the future.

Speaking about her achievement, Ferrer, now a part-time instructor in the School of Education, Criminology, Arts, and Psychology (SECAP) department of USL, shared her gratitude and sense of pride in representing her alma mater, community, and the youth of Cagayan Province on such a significant stage. “Being selected as a finalist is an honor beyond words. It’s a privilege to stand among so many incredible young leaders from across the Philippines,” she remarked.

Drawing from her experience, Ferrer credited the continuous support from the University President, Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, Ph.D., together with the Dean of Student Affairs and Services (DSAS), Mr. Cirilo R. Parallag Jr., JD. “Their encouragement and acknowledgment of my work as a student leader have played a crucial role in helping me reach this point,” she stated. Ferrer expressed her deep appreciation for the university’s unwavering commitment to providing resources and celebrating her successes, which she described as invaluable to her leadership journey.

In light of this supportive environment, Ferrer believes that such encouragement is vital for success. “What stands out to me most from this experience is how essential a supportive environment is. The encouragement from my mentors and our very own University President has been my inspiration and motivation,” she concluded.

With this recognition, Ferrer stands as a beacon of Louisian excellence and serves as an inspiration to future student leaders striving to make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.
