Over 150 Grade 5 and 6 pupils joined the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines’ two-day camping event held at the Elementary grounds on October 17-18, 2024. The event offered a blend of skill-building exercises, environmental awareness programs, and team-building activities designed to foster scouting principles among the youth.
The first day opened with a vibrant banner-making activity followed by scout training sessions, covering essential skills such as whistle calls, silent signals, and the significance of the Scout Oath and Law. Participants also learned the roles of each patrol position and the proper flag-hoisting protocols, led by Sct. Kyle Angelo T. Diciano, USL alumnus and Council Scout Representative.
University nurses Jacqueline C. Ruma, MSN, and Michelle D. Nuñez facilitated a practical orientation on first aid and self-care, equipping the scouts with valuable health and safety knowledge. The evening activities included a torch parade, campfire ceremonies, and a community rosary, fostering unity and reflection.
Moving on to day 2, the focus was on wellness and environmental stewardship, beginning with fitness activities to energize the scouts. A symposium on “Effective Strategies for Implementing the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” led by Science teachers Elaine L. Domingo and Andrey Jhon C. Fugaban, introduced the young scouts to sustainable practices and the importance of environmental responsibility.
Subsequently, further activities comprised team-building exercises, a cooking session, and the Kaibigan ng Kalikasan Program (KKP), which encouraged scouts to uphold cleanliness in all areas, supported by the presence and guidance of the elementary teachers.
Anchored on SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), the BSP and GSP camping event provided a rich experience that instilled values of leadership, self-discipline, and environmental consciousness, leaving lasting memories and skills for the young Louisian scouts.
