Different Roots, Shared Journeys: I-CARE TARA brings int’l college students together

The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT), through the Guidance and Counseling Center – College Unit, gathered international and culturally diverse college students for I-CARE TARA on September 29, 2026, at the College Guidance Testing Room.

With the theme “Different Roots, Shared Journeys: Building Connections and Belonging,” the activity brought together students from Filipino, Chinese, Congolese, Indian, Japanese, American, Pakistani, Arab, and other backgrounds. It gave everyone a chance to share a few stories, learn about each other, and enjoy the simple experience of meeting new people and finding connections along the way.

I-CARE, or International – Campus Assistance and Resources for Everyone: Together Across Roots and Adventures, is a Tier 2 Guidance and Counseling Center program for international and culturally diverse students. The word “TARA,” which means “let’s go” in Filipino, reflects the spirit of the activity which is to invite students to come together, share their stories, explore different cultures, and build connections along the way.

The afternoon was filled with laughter and new conversations. It was an avenue and chance to meet others they had not known before.

“I’m very happy and joyful to see you and share our moment together. I experienced something new from all of you. Thank you so much,” one participant shared.

Another student said he was happy to meet new friends and learn about people from different countries. One participant also expressed appreciation for the activity, saying, “I appreciate the school for conducting this activity.” The students likewise shared that they hope to have more activities where they can meet and connect with one another.

Through I-CARE TARA, the Guidance and Counseling Center continues to provide opportunities for students from different backgrounds to meet, connect, and belong at USLT, their second home. The activity supports Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities by promoting inclusion, respect for cultural diversity, and meaningful connections among students from different backgrounds.
