The Christian Faith Education Department (CFED) successfully held the First Day of Catechist Orientation and Training Program on August 7, 2026, with the theme “Rooted in Christ, Ready to Catechize.” The program brought together CFED faculty members, pre-service teachers, CICM Campus Mission Volunteers, and CICM Scholars for a meaningful day of formation, reflection, and preparation for the mission of catechesis.
The first session featured Ma’am Gianette P. Pagalilauan, MARS, Campus Ministry Director, who discussed “The Identity and Mission of a Catechist.” Her session highlighted the vocation of the catechist as a witness, teacher, and companion in faith, emphasizing that catechesis is not simply about imparting religious knowledge but about leading others toward a deeper encounter with Jesus Christ and a more faithful Christian life.
This was followed by a session on “Catechetical Pedagogy” facilitated by Ma’am Abigail F. Gumabay, MAEd, Christian Faith Education Department Head. The session introduced the participants to the basic principles of catechetical pedagogy, highlighting Jesus Christ as the Perfect Catechist and emphasizing the importance of understanding learners, connecting faith with their lived experiences, and using meaningful and engaging approaches in teaching the faith.
The formation journey does not end here. Another session of the Catechist Orientation and Training Program will follow, providing the participants with further formation and practical preparation as they take on the mission of catechizing and accompanying young people in their journey of faith.
