The ABM Area of the Basic Education School, through the ABM GEMxecutives and the Business Optimizers Student Society (BOSS), spearheaded the Financial Literacy and Quality Assurance Summit on September 26, 2024, at Bulwagang Pacifico Casem.
The event, themed “Add to Heart: Financial Skills; Check Out: Quality Excellence,” aimed to empower student leaders with essential financial management and quality assurance skills.
Student leaders were enlightened on “Quality Assurance Essentials for Student Organizations: An Introduction,” presented by Dr. Marie Jean N. Mendezabal, the SMQAA Senior Director. This session emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in organizational operations.
Additionally, Ms. Sheela Myrr P. Martinez, Treasurer of JFinEx-USL and an alumna of USL SHS-ABM, led the session on “Mastering Financial Management and Effective Fundraising Strategies.” This provided participants with key insights on managing finances and developing sustainable fundraising approaches for their organizations.
The summit concluded with “Financial Statements Unveiled: A Beginner’s Guide to Preparing and Interpreting Financial Reports,” presented by Mr. Cesar Paul T. Quilang Jr., VP for Finance of JPIA-USL and an alumnus of USL SHS-ABM. This final session taught student leaders the basics of both preparing and interpreting financial statements, equipping them with crucial skills to handle financial reporting for their organizations.
These activities empowered student leaders to effectively manage their organizations’ finances while ensuring high standards in operations. Ultimately, the knowledge gained from the sessions will help them foster a culture of financial responsibility and organizational excellence.
