The Basic Education School (BES) recently launched the celebration of Science Month, featuring an exciting opportunity for students to engage in various activities that promote scientific knowledge.
BES students and faculty members opened the month-long celebration on September 2, 2024, in a program held at the Elementary Quadrangle for the CAPABLE Louisians and a televised program in the classrooms for the Junior High School and Senior High School students.
The celebration offers a diverse line-up of activities aimed at strengthening the scientific values and skills among students, as well as showcasing their innovations and creations. Several activities will test the students’ creativity, including art contests, an exhibit, an eco show, and a photo story contest. Additionally, students will be challenged with a variety of brain-stimulating events, such as the GENYO Quizzers’ Showdown, library-related quiz bees, a seminar-workshop, and a series of olympiads covering various branches of science.
Mr. Marvin C. Baccay, Science Area Head, shared that “Science Month is an annual celebration of the achievements of the science community to inspire and inform pupils and students of the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).”
With the theme “BES is Back to BASICS: Building an Authentic, Sustainable, and Innovative Culture of Science,” Science Month encourages students to revisit the roots and reconnect with the fundamental principles that underpin advancements in STEM. The theme emphasizes the value of simplicity, sustainability, and genuine innovation and stresses the importance of cultivating a strong foundation in basic skills and knowledge as a foundation for complex ones.
Mr. Baccay spearheads the organization of the celebration with the assistance of the Young Enthusiasts of Science Club and STEM-H and STEM-NH Councils.
