As our #LouisianSuccessStory continues, we turn to another journey that began with a dream in architecture and developed through years of work.
From the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao to major architectural projects across the Gulf region, Arch. Jaylord Guzman Arao, BS Architecture Batch 2010, has built a career marked by continuous learning, hands-on experience, and professional growth.
For the past 15 years, Arch. Arao has worked in the construction and consultancy industry across Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, contributing to projects ranging from high-rise luxury five-star hotels and commercial office towers to beach resorts, ports, warehouses, depots, and large-scale fit-out projects. Among the notable projects he has worked on is the Al Thumama FIFA World Cup Stadium in Qatar.
His professional journey has progressed from site-based architectural roles to senior project architect positions, where he has led teams and coordinated with clients, consultants, contractors, and various disciplines. Through these experiences, he has strengthened his technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to delivering quality architectural projects.
Arch. Arao credits his education at USLT for providing a strong foundation in architectural design, building technology, and professional practice. Beyond technical knowledge, he considers the discipline, values, and formation he received at the university instrumental in developing his confidence, work ethic, and sense of responsibility as a professional.
The principles he gained as a Louisian have continued to guide him throughout his career, helping him adapt and thrive in the competitive construction industry abroad.
To students and fellow Louisians, Arch. Arao shares a message of perseverance and continuous growth: “Dream big, work hard, and never stop learning.” He emphasizes that while technical knowledge is essential in architecture, integrity, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance are equally important.
Wherever their careers may take them, he encourages fellow Louisians to carry the values they learned from USLT, make a positive impact through their professions, believe in themselves, stay humble, and keep building their dreams.
