Administrators, faculty members, staff, and students gathered today, February 18, 2026, at the Open Field of the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) to observe Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season in the Catholic tradition.
The Eucharistic celebration and imposition of ashes were presided over by Rev. Fr. John Mark D. Barroga, CICM, Vice President for Mission and Identity and University Chaplain.
In his reflection, Fr. Barroga reminded the academic community that Ash Wednesday calls the faithful to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving as expressions of repentance and renewal. The imposition of ashes serves as a symbol of humility and a reminder of life’s temporality, inviting everyone to begin the Lenten journey with sincere conversion and deeper commitment to faith and service.
The celebration provided members of the Louisian community an opportunity to pause from daily routines and reflect on personal and communal renewal as they prepare for the Lenten season.
