College Accounting students mentor Senior High Schoolers thru Project ASTA

Freshmen students from the BS Accountancy and BS Management Accounting programs conducted ABM Senior High School Tutorial Activity (Project ASTA) at Rodolfo B. Albano Stand-Alone Senior High School, Cabagan, Isabela.

The event, held on July 9, 2025, is part of a long-running service learning initiative designed to strengthen the accounting foundations of Grade 12 students under the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand. Supervised by Mr. Jerome D. Marquez, the college students, enrolled in Intermediate Accounting 1 during the Short-Term SY 2024–2025, served as mentors throughout the activity.

The session focused on Cash and Cash Equivalents and Bank Reconciliation, topics essential for those pursuing business and accounting-related college programs. Activities included lectures, interactive discussions, and group exercises aimed at making complex concepts easier to understand and apply.

All aspects of the activity—from planning to implementation—were managed by the college students, giving them the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a practical setting while also contributing to community learning.

ASTA has been running since 2019 and continues to bridge the gap between senior high school and college-level accounting education. Organizers aim to further expand the program in the coming years to reach more ABM students across the region.
