USL inaugurates new molecular diagnostics and research laboratory

The University of Saint Louis – School of Health and Allied Sciences proudly celebrates the blessing and dedication of its new Molecular Diagnostics and Research Laboratory, featuring the unveiling of the dedication marker and the ceremonial untying of the ribbon on October 01, 2024, at the Lecaros Campus.


This milestone represents the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and community service. The event is an open door to innovation and discovery, making the moment one of the many achievements defining every Louisian’s journey.


In his opening remarks, Dr. Dindo V. Asuncion, SHAS academic dean, explained the importance of the laboratory. He also underscored the significant values and vision of the university, reflecting on how far the institution had come and what it would mean for the future.


During the ceremony, Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, Ph.D., University President, expressed his appreciation to the SHAS department for always striving for excellence. More so, he advised them to take good care of the laboratory and look closely at the possibilities and maximum potential of what the laboratory can provide.


Hon. Maila Rosario S. Ting-Que, Tuguegarao City Mayor, graced the program with her speech highlighting her commendation to USL for moving forward, manifesting pride for every Tuguegaraoeño. The other representatives also delivered their message, expressing their admiration for the newly built laboratory and the institution.


Furthermore, Alvin A. Aldea, MSMT, SHAS-MLS department head, highlighted the overview of the laboratory’s purpose, facilities, and research focus. He introduced the advanced features and capabilities of the laboratory. He also explained how it will serve as a center for all Louisians to engage in pioneering research and hands-on learning.


On the flip side, University President Rev. Fr. Maniwang and Vice President for Mission and Identity/University Chaplain Rev. Fr. John Mark D. Barroga, CICM, Math-PM, spearheaded the untying of the ribbon ceremony and unveiling of the dedication marker. They were joined by the representatives from the City Mayor’s Office, CHED-Region 2, DOST-Region 2, Cagayan Valley Health Research and Development (CVHRDC), and PAMET Cagayan.


The said celebration began a new chapter for the university and the community. Specifically, this will benefit Louisian educators and students in Molecular Biology and Diagnostics, as well as Medical Laboratory Science and Research Writing and Presentation subjects.


More than just a decorative piece, the ribbon symbolizes the endless potential it can offer to every Louisian. The start of this exciting chapter will surely change the world, one breakthrough at a time.
