BES-SLG holds 3-day leadership seminar; features mass induction, socialization ball

The Basic Education School – Supreme Learner Government (BES-SLG) held a three-day leadership seminar from September 5 to 7, 2024, aiming to enhance the leadership skills of student officers from Elementary to Senior High School.

The seminar, themed “TORCH: Transcending Student-Leader, Recognizing Their Obligations, and Refining Their Capabilities While Creating a Harmonious Community,” gathered classroom and club officers for intensive training on leadership and teamwork.

Day one session commenced at SM Downtown and was officially launched by Dr. Emily T. Mabborang, Vice President for Basic Education School, with her opening remarks. This was followed by an inspirational speech from Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, Ph.D., University President. The participants actively engaged in various discussions and workshops, with two invited resource speakers, Joi Tatiana C. De Guzman, JD, CCpE, and Engr. Marvin S. Silva, ME-ECE.

Day two session centered around the presentation of action plans for the upcoming school year. Student leaders collaborated and shared their visions, aligning them with the core values of the university to foster holistic development.

Team-building activities, designed to reinforce collaboration and camaraderie among participants, were highlighted on day three. The JHS and the SHS presidents later awarded the winning teams, recognizing their outstanding teamwork and problem-solving skills.

The seminar culminated in a blissful socialization ball with the theme “Islang Pantropiko: Surging through the Continuous Waves of Leadership that Comes Along the Shore.” Rev. Fr. John Mark D. Barroga, CICM, MATh-PM, Vice President for Mission and Identity and University Chaplain, presided over the mass induction, followed by the ceremonial oath of office led by Fr. Maniwang. Subsequently, the event was graced by Atty. Raamah Elisha M. Dadhwal, CPA, as the guest speaker. To ignite a sense of service and responsibility in the student leaders, the evening concluded with the symbolic lighting of the leadership torch.

The three-day seminar was a great success, demonstrating the dedication of BES-SLG to develop the next generation of leaders and instill a strong sense of community and responsibility in students.
