Six educators from the University of Saint Louis’ Basic Education School (BES) successfully completed the American Field Service (AFS) GlobalUp Educator’s Program Facilitated Dialogue Sessions held on November 19 to 21, 2024, at the AIM Conference Center in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

The Louisian educators who participated in the program include Lovely Joy O. Ruiz, MST, Assistant Principal for Academics; Liza P. Maquera, MAEd, English Area Head; Darwin F. Dumlao, Head of the Center for Basic Education Research; Jeremae V. Sagario, MST, Immersion Area Head; and Kristian Jay A. Sto. Tomas, MAEd, along with Nancy C. Batang, MAEd, both English teachers.
Prior to attending the program’s main activities, the participants completed 26 modules that brought them directions to meet the needs of a specific audience. These modules were followed by facilitated dialogues, training sessions, and forums centered on general themes such as Culture and Identity, Stereotypes and Generalizations, Understanding Inequality, Teaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Maximizing Global Impact.
The AFS GlobalUp Program is a blended learning initiative designed to cultivate essential global skills necessary for living, working, and contributing to social impact in a rapidly globalizing world. One of the primary objectives of the AFS GlobalUp Educator’s Program is to enhance participants’ self-awareness, foster an understanding of diverse perspectives, and develop the ability to bridge cultural differences.
This endeavor aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, which underscores the importance of investing in education as a critical step toward reducing poverty and addressing global challenges such as population growth.
