<p>The university’s Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholars, Salve Maria M. Cardenas (BSCE-4), John Paul A. Bayubay (BSCE-4), John Cedric T. Dela Cruz (BSCE-3), and Ceejay D. Gangngat (BSCE-3), exemplified outstanding representation of the university and the Cagayan Valley region during the 2nd National Patriot Scholars Congress (NPSC) held at Camp John Hay, Baguio City, on September 3-6, 2024.</p>

<p>Embracing the theme “United, We Lead,” the Louisian DOST scholars gained a deeper understanding of leadership and their vital role in national progress with a series of plenary talks featuring distinguished resource speakers. They also engaged in the exchange of ideas and volunteer experiences with their peers during an event dubbed &#8220;The World Cafe,&#8221; further enriching their understanding of leadership and its impact on societal advancement.</p>

<p>The four scholars, along with their fellow scholars from the Association of Cagayan Valley Active Young Scholars, also clinched 2nd runner-up in the NPSC Cultural Performance contest. The team presented a performance depicting the diverse culture of the country.</p>

<p>The congress extended a valuable platform for cultivating the future cohort of Filipino leaders dedicated to advocating for inclusivity and sustainability in the country&#8217;s progress and development.</p>

<p>Through the scholars’ active participation and achievements, they have embodied the principles of the United Nations&#8217; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in fostering quality education (SDG 4) and inspiring leadership for sustainable communities (SDG 11).</p>

<p>Hailing from Tabuk City, Kalinga, Engr. Artates took the chance to pursue his studies at USL, eventually graduating and emerging as a topnotcher in a national board examination. His remarkable feat, however, was the result of countless challenges, moments of self-doubt, and arduous hard work. With his perseverance and determination, he has earned recognition at a young age, and he has also made his family, friends, and alma mater immensely proud.</p>

<p>Engr. Artates credited his achievement to his family, who nurtured and supported him throughout his journey. He shared that their joy and excitement upon learning of his success were deeply rewarding for him. “Seeing them proud and happy is one of the things that satisfies me.,” he remarked.</p>

<p>Moreover, Engr. Artates acknowledged the University of Saint Louis for his achievement, citing the institution&#8217;s provision of quality education and dedicated instructors who guided and molded him during his college years. He emphasized the strong foundation he received in various subjects, which facilitated his understanding during review days.</p>

<p>Additionally, he attributed his growth, confidence, and a sense of responsibility to the university, noting its influence on his spiritual development. Engr. Artates recognized the integral role of the university in shaping his academic and personal development, expressing gratitude for the institution&#8217;s impact on his success.</p>

<p>He also acknowledged the guidance of the Lord in reaching this significant milestone, emphasizing that it was through His grace that his achievement was made possible.</p>

<p>As someone who went through the same path as the current students, Engr. Artates imparts a message of encouragement to those who are tirelessly pursuing their dreams. He emphasizes the importance of perseverance, urging them to never succumb to the challenges that they may encounter along the way.</p>

<p>“Never ever give up on your goals. Whenever you are facing setbacks in life, please remember that they are just detours and not roadblocks or dead-end towards the road to your success. Also remember that we have the Lord who will help and guide us in our battles.,” he advised.</p>

<p>As individuals navigating their own paths, he urged the students to remain resilient and unwavering in their determination, knowing that their efforts will ultimately lead them to success.
