Significantly, Dr. Arnel C. Fajardo, Professor of Isabela State University, facilitated the afternoon’s learning sessions. Participants explored the Digital Health Landscape and Emerging ICT Innovations in Healthcare (Session 1), From Health Problems to ICT-Based Research Opportunities (Session 2), and From Research Idea to Concept Proposal: Essential Elements of an ICT-Based Health Research Proposal (Session 3).

Additionally, the participants also took part in a workshop on Team Formation, Problem Identification, and Concept Ideation, where they began developing ICT-based research concepts addressing health-related concerns.

Overall, the training is designed to strengthen participants’ ability to develop research proposals that use ICT to respond to healthcare needs and contribute to the region’s health research and innovation efforts. Carrying the batch name “Psydhaya,” the ceremony carries the theme “Rooted in Purpose, Growing in Service,” marking an important step in the students’ journey as they prepare for their internship and future careers in Psychology.

The name Psydhaya combines “Psy,” representing Psychology, and “Sidhaya,” symbolizing accomplishment, growth, and fulfillment. It demonstrates the students’ journey as they continue to develop their knowledge and skills while building a strong sense of purpose and commitment to serving others.

A highlight of the ceremony is the presentation of the nameplate and Psychology pin, which symbolizes the students’ growing identity as future Psychology professionals. This is followed by the Oath-Taking Ceremony, where the students affirm their responsibilities, ethical duties, and commitment to the profession.

The ceremony reminds Batch Psydhaya of the values behind their chosen field. Being rooted in purpose means staying true to their values and responsibilities, while growing in service means using their knowledge and skills to help others and contribute to society.

The ceremony supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by providing students with meaningful academic and professional experiences that prepare them for their future careers. During the awarding, the team received medals, a recognition plaque, and a cash prize amounting to 20,000 pesos.

The first day of school came alive with laughter, excitement, and new memories as students visited the Guidance and Counseling Center booths. They captured fun moments at the Photo Booth, shared their hopes and aspirations for the school year on the Manifestation Board, and joined the different games and activities prepared for them.

Students were also given Guidance and Counseling brochures, introducing them to the programs and services available to support them throughout the school year. It was also an opportunity for students to become more familiar with the Guidance and Counseling Center and the people who are always ready to listen, assist, and walk with them.

The games added even more excitement, with students happily taking home souvenir items from the Guidance and Counseling Center. The smiles, laughter, and energy of the students made the activity a warm and memorable welcome to the new school year.

More than just a first-day activity, First Day High 2026 was a simple celebration of new beginnings, a chance to welcome students, encourage them to dream, and remind them that they do not have to journey through college alone.

As the new school year unfolds, may every Louisian embrace new experiences, discover new possibilities, and create meaningful memories along the way, knowing that support is always within reach. Through initiatives such as First Day High, the university continues to promote students’ well-being and create a safe and supportive environment where every Louisian can thrive. The University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) and the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) formally sealed their partnership through a contract-signing ceremony on July 27, 2026, marking the start of implementation of the CPD-funded research project, Intergenerational Households in Supporting the Elderly in Cagayan Valley.

The approved research grant demonstrates the shared commitment of both institutions to conducting evidence-based research on the role of intergenerational households in supporting older persons in the Cagayan Valley Region. Moreover, the study’s findings are expected to contribute to population and development initiatives, strengthen programs for the elderly, and provide evidence to support policy and program development.

Representatives from CPD, led by Regional Director Ms. Theresa C. Soriano, MADem, joined University President Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, PhD, university officials, and members of the research team during the signing. Headed by Project Leader Mr. Jomel M. Maborrang, MAEd, the study will examine how intergenerational households support older persons in the Cagayan Valley. Its findings are expected to strengthen programs for the elderly and provide valuable evidence for future policy and program development.

This partnership advances Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being by supporting research that promotes the welfare and quality of life of older persons.
