A number of multidisciplinary research projects have been conducted to make education in USL more efficient. The use of updated technology were developed in teaching such as the use of AUTOCAD, MATHLAB for Engineering courses and the development of courseware in programming for IT courses. These innovations provide students with hands-on learning experiences that reinforce the concepts and theories learned from lecture classes. A significant number of higher education researches were also undertaken which covered a variety of topics such as the effects of the different classroom based instruction, evaluation of programs, evaluation of competencies of the faculty and students in their respective fields of specialization and tracer studies.
The Unlad Dunong Center which is the research arm of the university, conducted institutional researches as well as collaborative and commissioned researches. The institutional researches include feasibility studies of opening new courses, profiling, enrolment trend analysis, assessment of the different implemented projects and programs of the university. The Center was commissioned by National Economic Development Authority(NEDA), Civil Service Commission (CSC), Commission on Higher education (CHED) and Asian Institute of Management (AIM) to conduct researches with them. There are two research proposals accepted by the DOST SEI for research grants “Mathematical Competencies of Secondary school Teachers of Region 2″ and “Diagnosing Student’s Difficulties in Learning Mathematics: A Basis for the Development of a Remediation Program”.
There are on-going collaborative researches with the different consortia and other academic institutions in the region. The center is affiliated with 5 consortiums namely CVEIRDEC, CVHERDEC, CVHRD, CCARDEC.
There are three papers that were internationally presented in Open University of Hong Kong , Educational Multimedia, Hypermedia and Telecommunications, Vienna, Austria and International Federation of Social Sciences Organization (IFSSO) Bali, Indonesia respectively. There were 6 research papers that were presented nationally.
The Center regularly publishes the Compendium, Research Journals and Newsletters and conducts Research Forum twice a year.
