‘Assist a Day Care Center’ turns 15
In its mission to develop socially aware and responsive members of the Louisian community, the University has several outreach and extension programs and activities towards community development. One of the programs is the “Assist a Day Care Center.”
The program aims to provide children with activities and care to prepare them physically and mentally for education. It is also through this program that the University gives the pupils free school supplies for one year and a forty- peso tuition fee per month.
The program was formally launched on July 12, 1997 at Linao East Day Care Center. From 1997-2012, the University has already assistedaround 1,500 day care pupils.
This school year 2012-2013, the University continues its support to the Day Care centers at Batu and Liwan, Enrile, Cagayan and Gadu, Solana, Cagayan. The three centers have a total of one hundred and five (105) pupils. School supplies comprising of pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, crayons, scissors, bond paper, brown envelopes, and writing and composition notebooks were distributed on July 23- 25, 2012.
This school year also, the program will assist day care teachers in their professional growth. The day care teachers are invited to attend the in-service trainings of the elementary faculty of the University.
The University has sustained the program and has continually assisted children in their formal education. The long existence of the program is primarily credited to the administrators, faculty, and personnel of the University who heartily pledged their sponsorship through their monetary assistance.
In recent years, the DingginKa Learning Center (DKLC) pupils or the hearing-impaired pupils of the University have been assisted similarly through this program. The program has thus been renamed as “Assist a Day Care Center/DKLC Pupil.”
